Calgary Engagement

This throwback engagement sessions is still one of my favourite sessions that I've have ever photographed. This adorable, now married couple was fun, sweet, playful and just perfect for each other. We chose downtown Calgary for their engagement session. The urban vibe really suited them and provided so many, and varied choices for backdrops.

I really love doing these pre-wedding sessions. It helps me to get to know my couple, and as I say over and over, nothing prepares an engaged couple for their wedding pictures like an engagement session. Even though we have had cameras on our phones for years now, it's not the same. Most of us can pull off some sort of acceptable pose or picture face on a phone picture. But having a big camera pointed at you all day, and knowing that you only have one chance to get the pictures messes with the psyche.

Thus, the importance of getting comfortable, learning to pose, and finding the style that you want for your big day can only be achieved by practice. After years of experience and photographing hundreds of couples, I can say with one hundred percent certainty that the best wedding pictures turn out with the couples that did an engagement session.

Pictures are Memories

We are pretty fortunate in our day and age that we do carry around cameras in our pockets, and can capture those moments we want to remember, the moments we want to keep. However, a professional photo session is the thing that produces the pictures you want to display. And hiring a professional photographer usually only comes to mind during special times in life. It's a shame really, in a lot of ways. We have begun to take memories for granted. But for those who value the meaning of a life event, those highlights that shape us, memories are more valuable.
